A Few Words…

Like most native New Mexicans, I am what locals endearingly call “Coyote”, a mixed-blood soul of Northern New Mexico. Tiwa Indian, French trapper, Spanish settler- my ancestral family roots run deep here and span many centuries.

From an early age, I wandered the fields, mountains, acequias and arroyos of this land with wonder and curiosity, learning to appreciate and respect her rustic beauty… and mysterious secrets. I came to honor centuries old stories told by the Old Ones- about the old ways before power lines and pavement changed the culture, and scarred the landscape. The Power of Spirit was everywhere, her mystery moved through all things. Today that mystery hovers among the ruins of mud, stone and wood slowly melting back to the earth. It dwells in the creatures, the mountains, the people of the old ways. It reveals itself through art, dance, prayer and ceremony. And It is honored, acknowledged and held sacred… in all that I create.

The ‘Old Ones’ would say, “There are songs in the wind, dance to them in your own way!” With the creation of each artwork, it is not only my humble way of honoring the songs, but my heartfelt way of dancing … my own authentic dance. A soulful dance…from Heart…to Hand.

“There are moments in our lives, there are moments in a day, when we seem to see beyond the usual— become clairvoyant. We reach then into reality. Such are the moments of our greatest happiness. Such are the moments of our greatest wisdom.”
